Work ~ Cherry Bookcases

This past week we installed floor to ceiling cherry bookcases in  a 100 year old house.  It is a farm house and has so much character!  The floors, the trim, the doors etc  I loved it all!!

Here are the bookcases:

I finished them all with Varathane's triple thick polyurethane in satin.  It was the first time I had used it.  I really like it and plan on using it more on future projects.  The only downside was tracking down all the cans needed to get the project one.  I guess if we had just ordered it online it would have been easier.  I found that using a water based sanding sealer first then a coat of the triple thick was good.  2 coats of triple thick gave a really nice and smooth finish.

Work ~ Bathroom Remod

This was an unexpected bathroom gut and remodel on the house we are putting the addition onto.  We had to remove the old exterior siding so we could move along but in doing so we discovered their only bathroom had leaking pipes and some black mold growth.  They decided to go ahead and redo the bathroom and get it over with.

I repainted the cabinet above the toilet, and the vanity.  They also kept the toilet since it was newer.  This all helped keep costs down.  Everything else is new.  New  subfloor, plumbing, new electrical, new tub, etc.

We got the bathroom done in roughly 3 days then they were able to paint the walls.

Work ~ Home Addition

Our current work project is adding almost 600 sq ft onto my very good friends house! She's like a sister to me. We've known each other for 14 years now I think.   Her current home has just 1 bathroom for the 5 of them.  We are adding a family room, master bedroom and master bathroom.  We'll also add a larger deck for them.

To keep the addition in their budget they are also helping out with some of the labor when they can.  :)

We just completed a basement the other day.  I think it turned out great!

Work ~ Regina Music Box Stand

This is a stand to put a Regina music box on top of and the metal records inside.

I wish we had gotten pictures of it all in place and set up but we didn't.

 

The last picture isn't the greatest, hubby's phone doesn't take very good pictures.

Work ~ Mudroom/ Laundry Room

Here's another mudroom we just finished.  Well it's not totally finished the homeowner wanted to paint the mudroom bench himself and he still has to install the tile, the baseboards and paint the walls.

Hubby built and installed all the cabinets and crown.  I painted all the other cabinets and just primed the bench.

Work ~ Entertainment Center

We installed this unit yesterday.  Hubby built it and I finished it.  It has 1 coat of ebony stain, 1 coat of java gel stain and 7 coats of wipe on poly on top of the stain.

Here are the cabinets with just the ebony stain.

2 of the cabinets have the java over the ebony.

 All 3 have the java.

They will change out the light switch cover to a brown or black one.  They now have plenty of room for their tv, books and dvds.
